This video has been trending in Germany, and Austria

The clip opens with a hunt for a forgotten tuning treasure: a Porsche 928 that German specialist Strosek transformed into an extreme wide-body in the late eighties. Even on the first walk-around it’s clear how rare this kit is: flared fenders, a boxy front apron with integrated indicators, flatter headlights in place of the stock pop-ups, massive side skirts and a full-width rear spoiler give the car a radically different look. The host explains that only a handful of these conversions were ever built, turning the car into a true automotive unicorn.

Despite its spectacular appearance, the Strosek 928 has been neglected for decades. The paint is dull and sun-burnt in places, rubber seals are crumbling, and the cabin smells damp. The leather seats are cracked, the dashboard shows typical heat damage, and a tangle of aftermarket wiring hints at past audio and alarm systems. Under the hood sits the robust 5.0-litre V8, but oil leaks, brittle hoses and a visibly tired timing belt point to costly repairs ahead. Still, after a few attempts the V8 fires, growling through a leaky exhaust and proving that the fundamentals are intact.

A brief shakedown on a closed track reveals how much potential remains: the steering feels precise, the automatic gearbox shifts surprisingly smoothly, and the chassis—despite worn bushings—gives a taste of how effortlessly the 928 once ate up autobahn miles. At the same time, flapping wheel-well liners, metallic clunks from the rear axle and barely functioning brakes make it obvious that a full rebuild is unavoidable.

The protagonist buys the car anyway. Key reasons: the irreplaceable rarity of the Strosek kit, the solid transaxle platform and the appreciation potential of an authentic 1980s wide-body. He estimates a purchase price in the low five-figure range and restoration costs of another €30,000–40,000—an investment that only makes sense with plenty of passion and a long-term view.

Finally, the video sketches the roadmap: stripping the shell bare, dry-ice blasting the underside, rebuilding the V8 with all new seals, either rescuing the existing paint or respraying in the original colour, installing a completely new period-correct leather interior, and subtly modernising the suspension. The goal is not just to save the Porsche 928 Strosek but to resurrect it as a rolling time capsule of the eighties—a statement for the often underrated transaxle era and a love letter to the golden age of wide-body tuning
