80 years after the end of the war, Russian President Putin uses the grand parade to portray the war against Ukraine as an alleged continuation of the fight against Nazis. But how do people in Russia commemorate the past and look to the future? That's what our ARD correspondents wanted to find out, so they traveled to various places in Russia and spoke with people there. For example, they visited one of Russia's most famous monasteries in Sergiev Posad. Here, not only do people pray, but children and young people also train with weapons. They also visited Nizhny Novgorod, where the younger generation is taught why the war in Ukraine is considered necessary from the Russian perspective. They visited a museum of the so-called 'special operation,' where even men who were at the front work. Patriotism holds a special value everywhere they went. But our correspondents also visited an alternative center that the state has not yet shut down. Here, alternative activities take place without state propaganda. However, how long this center will remain is uncertain.
