The Minister of State in the President's Office - Regional Administration and Local Government, Mohamed Mchengerwa, has strongly condemned the permission granted by the Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Albert Chalamila, allowing regular vehicles to use certain Bus Rapid Transit lanes, including the one in Mbagala, within a short period, because they did not have the authority to do so.

Mchengerwa made these remarks today, on March 21, 2025, during the signing ceremony of the DMDP Phase II project, which will involve the construction of roads in five municipalities in Dar es Salaam.

The Minister continued to say that the act of allowing regular vehicles to pass has caused the Mbagala BRT lane to start deteriorating before the vehicles even started using it.

'You gave instructions at some point to allow vehicles to pass on the BRT lanes, forgetting that these lanes do not belong to you but to the Minister of State in the President's Office - Regional Administration and Local Government. You allowed people to pass at that time, I forgive you.'

'But my directive is, the Mbagala BRT lane has had trucks weighing from 30 to 40 tons pass through it, and as a result, the road has started deteriorating, and this project will come to a halt,' Mchengerwa said.
