Exclusive interview with Daniel Noboa after the capture of 'Fito', Ecuador's most wanted criminal

The President of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, explained on Conclusiones that following the capture of drug trafficker Adolfo Macías, alias Fito, they are ready to extradite him to the United States as soon as possible so that he can face justice there. He said that, “although the prisons are currently under control, having Fito there is a risk.” He added that he is confident his government will win the referendum — if the Constitutional Court approves the process — to allow U.S. military bases to be established in his country. He said his administration is willing to cooperate with any country that wants to support them in addressing the security crisis caused by organized crime. Furthermore, he stated that he is in talks with the European Union (EU) to include them in the initiative, since “a large part of the drugs leaving Ecuador are headed to European ports.”

The President of Ecuador also said that he agrees with labeling the organized crime groups in his country as terrorist groups. He asserts that Ecuador is fighting a war that his government “is winning.”
