Hello and welcome to a new entertaining video! Today, we're going to talk about a topic that has been on my mind for quite some time - the Oscars. Yes, the glamorous award show that captivates us every year with stars, glamour, and sparkling gowns. But why don't I watch the Oscars anymore?

In my 12 years on this channel, I've never done a recap of the Oscars, even though I used to be a huge fan. In the 90s, I would fill out prediction sheets with my friends, stay up late into the night to watch the event, and either rejoice or be disappointed depending on who won. But then came the year 1999, a pivotal year that left many Oscar fans bewildered.

Back then, fantastic films like 'The Thin Red Line' and 'Saving Private Ryan' were nominated, but the winner was a surprise film - 'Shakespeare in Love'. Questions like 'What actually happened there?!' arose. And yes, that got me thinking. Are the Oscars really about honoring the best film, or is there more to it?

In this video, I delve into why the Oscars have faced increasing criticism in recent years. Allegedly, they have become too political, don't award the right films, and viewership numbers are rapidly declining. But what's really behind it?

Another critical event from 1999 was Roberto Benigni's unexpected Oscar win for 'Life is Beautiful'. A man who never really stood out as an actor afterwards. And why him specifically? Well, behind the scenes, someone played a significant role - Harvey Weinstein. A film producer who essentially 'bought' the Oscars.

Studios invest millions to get their films and stars into the spotlight of the Oscar jury. Because an Oscar nomination or win can significantly boost box office results, as studies show. Not to mention the parties, goodies, and pressures used to influence the votes of Academy members.

In conclusion, the Oscars are not just a glamorous award show, but also a spectacle in the shadows of power and money. It's not only about recognition, but also about money. And perhaps it's this manipulation and questionable influence that has led me to stop watching the Oscars. Who knows, maybe things will change in the future. Until then, the question remains: Is the luster of the Oscars really worth its weight in gold?
