DOES AMAZON CAUSE PRICES TO RISE IN ONLINE RETAIL?
Cheap prices – that's how Amazon attracts its customers. However, Amazon allegedly has no interest in offering customers a good price. This is not only criticized by the American competition authority FTC against Amazon.

For the first time, a former Amazon manager reveals insights on PlusMinus. She provides an inside look at Amazon's operations and explains the sophisticated strategies through which Amazon puts pressure on retailers and manufacturers.

NO CHEAPER ORDERS ANYWHERE BUT AMAZON
With these strategies, Amazon compels retailers and manufacturers to not offer their products cheaper anywhere else. And due to the significant costs imposed by Amazon on retailers and manufacturers, online prices overall are said to increase.

AMAZON SELLERS: INITIAL GOOD PROFITS, THEN LESS REVENUE & RISING COSTS
Following initial good profits, manufacturers and sellers talk about declining sales through Amazon, but increasing costs from offering products through the online giant. Ultimately, according to retailers, one may even need to pay to ensure being found under a search term.

AMAZON'S MARKET POWER: MONOPOLY FUNCTION PREVENTS COMPETITION
An example is the so-called Buy Box. If a seller does not have the most competitive price on Amazon, they lose access to the Buy Box. However, it is crucial for sales on Amazon. According to the former employee, Amazon manages to prevent or at least limit price competition with strategies like these. This, as per our antitrust expert, has devastating effects on the overall economy.
