Cruzeiro took the field at the Mineirão needing a victory to close in on the leaders of the 2025 Brazilian Championship and immediately set a high tempo. On a rapid break, the forward controlled a long pass, cut inside and fired into the top corner—a screamer that sent the crowd into a frenzy. Leading 4–1, the Celeste coach managed the advantage, making substitutions to rest starters and see out the result.

The 4–1 win lifts Cruzeiro into the top four of the 2025 Brasileirão, strengthening their bid for a Libertadores spot. Grêmio, coming off a positive run, lose ground in the table and will need a response next round. Individual standouts were Cruzeiro’s midfielder, with a goal and an assist, and Grêmio’s goalkeeper, who kept the score from being even heavier.
