Matchday 1 of the 2025 Apertura began with a real spectacle at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc. Puebla and Atlas took the field determined to set the tone and, from the opening minutes, both sides showed an attacking mindset. A midfield steal allowed Aldo Rocha to thread a pass to Quiñones, who was brought down in the box; the Rojinegros’ captain took responsibility himself and converted the decisive penalty in the 87th minute, sealing the 3-2. The closing minutes were dramatic: Puebla threatened from set pieces while Atlas defended with poise and countered when possible, securing three priceless points on the road.

With this victory, Atlas start the tournament near the top of the table and confirm that their squad is in sync after preseason. For Puebla, the loss leaves mixed feelings: they showed resilience and good passing, but must fix defensive lapses if they want to aim for the Liguilla.
