Hawa Koomson assaulted by thugs at Ablekuma North elections. The video opens with chaotic scenes at the New Patriotic Party’s polling-station elections in Ablekuma North, Accra. Mavis Hawa Koomson, who doubles as Minister and Member of Parliament, had reportedly arrived to observe proceedings when a group of well-built men in party T-shirts confronted her. Mobile-phone footage shows shoving, raised voices and delegates scrambling for safety as the thugs force their way toward the MP. In the melee one man is seen striking Koomson’s arm while others hurl insults, overturn chairs and tear voting materials, bringing the exercise to an abrupt halt.

Outside the hall Koomson, visibly shaken, grants an impromptu interview. She claims the attackers were hired to intimidate her and to alter the outcome of the constituency’s polling-station elections. Exhibiting a ripped sleeve and minor bruises, she explains that she had queried discrepancies in the delegate album moments before the confrontation began. According to her, the invasion was premeditated: the men arrived in a convoy, bypassed the police detail on duty and went straight for her team. She vows to lodge a formal complaint with the Ghana Police Service and to petition the party’s National Executive Committee for swift sanctions.

Eyewitnesses back her account, telling journalists that the thugs seized ballot papers, threatened electoral officers and chased some delegates out of the compound. Several voters reportedly lost phones and cash during the stampede. A few attempted to film the disturbance but were forced to delete footage at knifepoint. One delegate, nursing a head wound, says this is the third time violence has marred an internal contest in the constituency and blames what he calls “moneybag politics” for the recurring turmoil.

The video ends with security personnel restoring order and declaring the exercise suspended until further notice. Commentators on site urge the NPP leadership to fortify constituency elections nationwide, warning that unchecked hooliganism could damage the party’s image ahead of Ghana’s 2024 polls. Calls are also made for bipartisan condemnation and for the police to prosecute all culprits, reinforcing the message that political violence, whether intra-party or national, has no place in Ghana’s democratic journey.
