Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Legal Team Asks for His Release After Verdict
TODAY
This video has been trending in United States, Canada, and Papua New Guinea
Sean “Diddy” Combs’ attorneys held a brief news conference outside the courthouse minutes after the jury returned its decision. While the panel found Combs guilty on the lesser misdemeanor count, it cleared him of the more serious felony charge that had carried the possibility of a several-year prison sentence. Lead defense lawyer Benjamin Brafman told reporters that the single conviction was “based on a narrow reading of the statute” and insisted the overall outcome proved the state’s case had “collapsed under its own weight.” He argued that the prosecution never established intent and that most eyewitness testimony was inconsistent.
Because the jury dismissed the felony, Combs is now eligible for immediate release at the judge’s discretion. Brafman announced that his team had already filed a motion asking the court to set aside the lone misdemeanor or, at minimum, to sentence Combs to time already served. The defense emphasized that the hip-hop mogul had fully cooperated with authorities from the start, surrendered voluntarily, and posed no flight risk. They also cited his extensive philanthropic work in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles as evidence that he remains “deeply rooted in the community.”
Prosecutors said they would oppose any move that would nullify the jury’s verdict but declined to comment further until the next hearing. According to courtroom sources, that hearing could come as soon as early next week, when the judge will decide whether to grant Combs bail, modify his confinement status, or schedule formal sentencing. Under state guidelines, a misdemeanor conviction similar to Combs’ typically results in probation or a short county-jail stay—not state prison time—especially for first-time offenders.
Outside the courthouse, supporters cheered as Combs was led back to a holding area. His mother, Janice Combs, thanked fans for their prayers and vowed that her son would continue to “uplift the culture” once this legal episode is behind him. Meanwhile, social-media reaction was swift: hashtags like #FreeDiddy and #JusticeForCombs trended within minutes, with fellow artists, industry executives, and civil-rights advocates urging the judge to release him immediately.
Legal analysts interviewed in the video predicted that the court will likely grant Combs’ release, citing the jury’s narrow verdict and the defense’s persuasive post-trial motion. However, they warned that an appeal from either side could prolong the case for months. For now, all eyes are on the upcoming hearing, where Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team will formally argue that the rapper-entrepreneur should be set free while the final chapter of his case is resolved.
