In a tragic incident that shook the community, a multi-vehicle accident in Tampines this morning claimed the lives of two individuals, including 17-year-old Afifa Munira, a student at Temasek Junior College. The school expressed deep sadness over the loss of Afifa and confirmed that additional support will be provided to those affected by the incident.
Eyewitnesses at the accident site described a horrifying scene of mangled metal and debris scattered across the roads following the collision involving four cars, a van, and a minibus. Residents recounted witnessing the aftermath of the crash, with bystanders rushing to aid those involved before emergency services arrived.
Eight people were transported to the hospital following the accident, with two individuals succumbing to their injuries later on. Afifa Munira, a first-year student at Temasek Junior College, was in her father's car heading to Temasek Polytechnic for a school event when the tragedy occurred. Her father, Muhammad Azil, underwent surgery for his injuries and is currently receiving medical care.
The other victim is reported to be a 57-year-old woman who was a passenger in a van belonging to a pest control firm. Among the injured were two 11-year-old students, highlighting the diverse age range of those impacted by the devastating crash.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force detailed the efforts to rescue a trapped individual whose leg was pinned under a car wheel, requiring the use of hydraulic rescue equipment. The police have stated that a 42-year-old car driver is cooperating with investigations into the accident.
