'In every weather report, we have to combine facts and information with entertainment. You have no clue about that at all.'

Unbelievable, have you ever seen Helene Fischer so excited, as if John, Paul, Ringo, George, Liam, No, Agneta, Anifried, Björn, and Benny were all standing on the stage at the same time? The Big Four of German weather presenting along with Dr. Gunter Tiersch from ZDF, and there are so many more weather stars on TV, and we all know and love them.

Weather on TV, yes, entertaining. But also serious, independent, apolitical, and neutral. The weather report doesn't look left or right, only forward and of course up, where the weather comes from, and down, where the weather falls. Weather is apolitical and highly relevant.

Weather reports are gaining new meaning in the era of climate change. Heatwaves, floods, and other weather extremes are becoming more frequent and intense as the planet warms up. Yes, that sucks. The weather report is becoming more serious due to the climate crisis, of course. Climate and weather are two different things, but a changing climate leads to changing weather.

And that's why those who know about weather can also competently talk about climate. Good evening and welcome to the weather. It was just in the news: June 2024 was the warmest June on record. If we hadn't had CO2 emissions, no human-induced climate change, then the earth's temperature would have remained in this range for the last 170 years. Well, that really sticks the fentanyl in the banana.

The weather frogs have to take off their snail costumes and bring us hard facts to face the sad reality. And honestly, that really takes away the fun of the weather. Meteorologists worldwide are increasingly facing ridicule and hate when they mention climate change. But don't kill the messenger, don't kill the weather frog. Kill those responsible for the climate crisis instead.

Weather presenters in Germany on TV have a tough gig. They have to deal every day with the misery that we have been successfully ignoring for decades – climate change. And no one thanks them for it. Instead, they are either laughed at, threatened, or even worse.

Weather presenters have to put up with a lot of crap, and that's why they can be thankful that there's a safe space for weather presenters. The International Weather Summit in Tyrol has been happening for 17 years.
