We are thrilled to announce the official debut of #TheSpiderWithin: A Spider-Verse Story, a collaboration with the #KevinLoveFund and the educational initiative, #TheHeroWithin. This project aims to highlight the struggles faced by superheroes like Miles Morales.

Sony Pictures Animation has partnered with the Kevin Love Fund to release the animated short film, The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story, digitally. The film will be integrated into the Kevin Love Fund's mental health-focused lesson plan called 'The Hero Within.' This lesson plan encourages students to share their own stories through the lens of mental health awareness, with an interactive curriculum that includes a creative storyboard activity. In this genre-defying thriller, The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story, Miles Morales grapples with the challenges of being a teenager, friend, and student while also serving as Brooklyn's Spider-Man. Following a particularly tough day, Miles experiences a panic attack that compels him to confront his anxiety and realize that seeking help is just as courageous as protecting his city from villains.

The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story was created as part of Sony Pictures Animation (SPA) and Sony Pictures Imageworks' (SPI) Leading and Empowering New Storytellers (LENS) program. This program, which spans 9 months, offers individuals from underrepresented backgrounds the chance to gain leadership experience in animation. The program culminates in an original short film set within an existing SPA and SPI film universe.

The LENS program is supported by Sony Pictures Entertainment's global racial equity and inclusion initiative, Sony Pictures Action. Its aim is to provide opportunities for creatives who have historically had limited access to leadership roles. Participants learn about various aspects of animated filmmaking, including production design, animation, visual effects, sound, and post-production processes. Through the program, participants enhance their ability to communicate their creative vision effectively and collaborate across disciplines.

Directed by Jarelle Dampier and written by Khailia Amazan, The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story was produced by LENS program creators Michelle Raimo-Kouyate and David Schulenburg. The inaugural LENS team also includes Clara Chan as VFX supervisor and Joe Darko as animation supervisor.
