The show is inspired by the famous humorous column 'Duniya Ne Undha Chasma' by the eminent Gujarati writer Mr. Tarak Mehta. The story revolves around happenings in 'Gokuldham Co-operative Society' and addresses socially relevant issues. The show mainly focuses on 'Jethalaal' (Dilip Joshi), an uneducated Gujarati businessman, and his neighbor 'Taarak Mehta' (Sailesh Lodha). Jethalaal seeks advice from Taarak Mehta, who is his friend and philosopher. Jethalaal's family includes his wife 'Daya Ben' (Disha Wakani) and his mischievous son 'Tapu' (Raj Anankat), who often causes trouble in Gokuldham. If Tapu doesn't reform, Jethalaal may have to leave the society.
