The 2025 Mondial la Marseillaise à Pétanque served up a dream semi-final between the evergreen Philippe Quintais and the trio led by Christophe Prudhomme. Under the Marseille sun and in front of packed stands at Parc Borély, the opening end confirmed Quintais’s status as favourite: from the very first boule his team locked down the circle with millimetre-perfect points, then followed up with two clean “carreaux” to race four points ahead. Taking advantage of a favourable deflection, Team Quintais pulled off a “bouchon gagné,” nudging the jack a few centimetres and forcing the umpire to break out the measuring tape. Verdict: Quintais’s boule was closest, worth three more points—9-6. Faces on Prudhomme’s side tightened as the tension rose amid cicada song and cheers from the terraces.

Though Prudhomme mustered a surge, trimming the gap to 9-8 with a rapid-fire shot, Quintais’s experience told in the money time. In the eleventh end “Philou” fired a dead-centre carreau that left two boules to finish the job. His pointer dropped the last one ten centimetres from the jack: 13-8, game over. The teams exchanged long handshakes, aware they had produced one of the finest matches of the 2025 edition.

The victory sends Philippe Quintais and partners into yet another Mondial la Marseillaise final, while Prudhomme’s triplette exits to ovations for their fighting spirit. All eyes now turn to the ultimate showdown on Marseille’s legendary boulodrome
